    1. It was frustrating at first but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome! If I can do it...anyone can.

  3. Liz - your creativity amazes me! "Stanley" was absolutely wonderful and entertaining. The illustrations and writing went so well together. Your "Cats Rule, Dogs Drool" is an excellent mentor text to teach compare and contrast text structure, as well as to introduce argumentative writing. I have never read such a great mixture of Haikus. How do you come up with this stuff? And the Dr. Suess piece is something that your students will definitely treasure! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you Angelene! I would actually really like to publish a version of "Stanley" someday as a children's book. It is based on a semi-true story. I have written a few versions of it. This one was pretty basic, the technology was too much for me to handle...again.

  4. Liz--I love the way your portfolio came together. Your children's book was awesome (and I liked that it took place in Seattle specifically), and all of your texts seemed like they would be perfect models for your students. I especially enjoyed the haikus with pictures accompanying them. That could be a really cool way to get to know students better in the beginning of the year. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Alison. I shared the haikus with my class already. They loved them and have been writing haikus like crazy this week!

  5. I loved your layout for your weebly site! You are so talented! The story about the superheros and super powers was awesome, I could totally hear your voice throughout the entire piece. All I could do was think about Cecil when I read your piece about cats versus dog (although I'm not sure you have me quite convinced just yet ;-) ) Your haikus were wonderful- such a great example for your kiddos. I love Dr. Seuss as well- do you plan to share this with your 4th graders at the end of the year? You rock! Great work this semester :-)

    1. Thank you for showing me Weebly! I was thinking of Cecil when I wrote that, and the fact that Molly pooped on the floor that morning. So, cats were my favorite that day. I did show my class the Haikus and they have been Haikuing like crazy. They loved them.

  6. This is such a cool layout for a portfolio! I really liked your picture book story. It's a very relatable story for people who love Ivar's, and french fries!

  7. Liz--YOU are a writer! I had fun reading all of your pieces from the picture book to your poems to your 5th grade poem. Sorry, I am a dog person so you can't convince me to get a cat. Yes, dog barking can be annoying. Your Dr. Seuss poem is a great send off for your students. Great present for the last day of school. Keep writing with your students Liz!

  8. What a great portfolio. I love how you added pictures to some of your writing. The modeling of favorite authors will be a great example to show your students. Favorite line, "poke holes in the clouds," makes me want to fly too!
